About the project

The Women’s Movements in the United States Oral History Project documents the history of American women’s activism in multiple social and political movements between the 1960s and the late 1970s, especially civil rights and women’s liberation. The interviews vary in length, but all highlight the individual narrator’s life history, political identities, and personal activism, while also offering historical context and the role of women in these larger movements.

With generous funding from an anonymous donor, discussion around this project began in 2022, and initial interviews took place in 2024.
