The South/Southeast Asia Library (S/SEAL) is the reference center for South and Southeast Asia social sciences and humanities on the UC Berkeley campus. The library includes an extensive reference collection of bibliographies, indexes, dictionaries, atlases, directories, statistical annuals, core works, and current high-use periodicals.

This library is wheelchair accessible.

  • Covers 19 South/Southeast Asian countries.
  • Collects in more than 30 Western and South/Southeast Asian languages.
  • Houses over 3,000 non-circulating items, including reference books, atlases, journals, archives, and special collections.
  • Gathers more than 700,000 circulating items in humanities and social sciences that are shelved in the Main (Gardner) Stacks, subject specialty libraries, and off-campus facility.
  • Serves as the center for connected learning of integrated and multidisciplinary research and teaching in South/Southeast Asian studies.
  • Provides on-site consultation and online access to South/Southeast Asian collections.
  • Promotes awareness and knowledge of South/Southeast Asia through faculty and graduate student scholarship and publicity of academic events.

Brunei, Cambodia, East Timor, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar/Burma, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, and Vietnam.
