Newspapers & Microforms Library
The Newspapers & Microforms Library is home to the UC Berkeley Library’s principal collections of newspapers, with more than 100 active newsprint subscriptions, and over 900 titles archived on microfilm. The library also holds robust collections of microforms (microfilm, microfiche, and micro-opaque formats), including 950,000 books, manuscripts, documents, and serials of significant academic and journalistic value.
This library is wheelchair accessible.

The Newspapers & Microforms Library provides collection assistance by appointment.
If you would like to make a request to use the collection, library staff will page items for you. To make a request, please contact the Newspapers & Microforms Library at pericirc@library.berkeley.edu and include as much information as possible (especially from our catalog, UC Library Search) about the collection or item that you would like to view. We will reply to you about your request, generally within a couple of business days. Items we are able to page will be placed at the Doe Circulation Desk; they can be viewed at microform readers nearby. During normal operations, physical access to this library is open to all researchers and visitors without requirement of any identification, registration, pass, or prior arrangements. Certain services, collections, equipment, or rooms within this library may be available only to certain groups of UC Berkeley students, faculty, and staff. Some newspapers are received in newsprint within one to eight weeks after publication.
All newsprint newspapers are for room use only.
Newsfilm
The newsfilm collection includes international, national, and local newspapers, archival and current. Current titles are usually received about three months after publication.This collection is arranged geographically in two sections:
- United States, alphabetically by state, then by city, then by title.
- International, by country, city, and title.

- U.S. and foreign governmental documents (including patents)
- Federal Register
- United Nations microfiche
