Cataloging statistics in Metadata Services

Scope

This document provides specific information about codes and subfields that are used in Metadata Services since July 1, 2022.

It supplements the following documents:

955 Subfields and codes

  • General:
    • Add field 955 after completing cataloging or maintenance to reflect the work completed.
    • Field 955 is repeatable. Include a 955 field for each required code.
    • Subfields $a, $b, and $c are required in each 955 field.
    • Subfields should be entered in alphabetical order, contain only one code, and are non-repeatable.
  • 955 $a (Date):
    • Use the format: yyyymm
  • 955 $b (Initials):
    • Do not include numbers.
  • 955 $c (Code):
    • CM - Cataloging, Minimal
      • In general, create full level (ELvl blank) records instead of minimal level (ELvl 7) or abbreviated level (ELvl 3) records.
    • MT - Maintenance
      • This code reflects that maintenance was done to a record, regardless of the type of maintenance performed.
        • For example, if you add multiple volumes to a multi-part monograph at the same time, only add one 955 field with the MT code.
      • Multiple 955 fields with MT may be included in the record if performing maintenance on the record at different times.
        • For example, if you add one volume to a multi-part monograph at the beginning of the month and happen to add another volume later that same month, there will be duplicate 955 fields.
  • 955 $d (Format):
    • Do not use.
  • 955 $e (Library/Department):
    • Do not use.
