Location codes in item and holdings records for MAIN monographs

In order to support the new books collection (located on the third floor of Moffitt), Catalog & Metadata Services catalogs all new MAIN monographic materials using the item location code ma9n (the label location remains MAIN).

This is for all monographic materials new to the collection (in any language), including newly added volumes to existing MVMs, new analytics, new editions, etc. This does not include exact-match replacements or additional copies.

The location in monographic MAIN holdings records is ma.  Monographic holdings records are suppressed in the OPAC, so the difference between ma in the holdings record and ma9n in any new item records should not confuse patrons.  Also, the holdings record location ma will remain ma and will not need to be changed from ma9n to ma when all volumes are on shelf, or the reverse, ma to ma9n, when new volumes are acquired.

Summary:

Beginning 9/19/13, all new MAIN materials will be cataloged with:

ITEM LOCATION = ma9n

LABEL LOCATION = MAIN

Beginning 10/12/15, all monographic MAIN holdings records will have:

LOCATION = ma
