BTECH Minutes - 3/2/05
Berkeley Technical Services
Discussion Group Meeting
Wednesday, March 2, 2005
9:00am to 11:00am
303 Doe Library
Agenda
1. Announcements
-BIOS has about 100 white plastic pamphlet boxes to give away. They
are about 4 inches wide. Contact Judith Weeks in BIOS if you would
like some. (Since this time the boxes have all been given away.)
- Sheila reported mixed media is now being cataloged by several
people. It is being given to the catalogers for each assigned
unit. If there are any problems with them please let her
know.
-Monograph Tracing: Just a reminder that people should only be tracing
necessary things for primary clientele. Each time you trace
something it takes the one person doing the tracing away from
cataloging. Please, no unnecessary tracing.
-There is one Serial staff person working on the backlog of serial mixed
media, stand alone CD's.
-CATA has decided it is OK to send for cataloging printed copies of PDF
files that are only issued in online PDF format. Do not send in an order
to CCS for these. It is the Subject Specialty Library's
responsibility to print it and bind it before cataloging. They
should be printed on acid free paper, they should be bound before sending
for cataloging, and they should have the date you printed it from the web
on it (this is very important!). Armanda is working on the procedures for
this to put in the BPM. These items should be sent directly to
Armanda for cataloging.
2. Systems Gladis update / C. Takaro
Bancroft shelflist is underway. Roughly 500,000 records were
selected and reports are being generated which will fill 3-4
CDROMS.
NRLF reports for TOC project and for n-level cleanup project.
Tandem migration work.
Security standards: new campus security standards take effect later this
year and a number of changes are needed to comply. We are at the
research and planning stage.
Various record sets are being investigated for potential load to Gladis
for both ebooks and microform sets.
RLIN21 changeover is now complete - old RLIN terminal is no longer
available, everyone needs to be using RLIN21. Contact David
Sullivan for the new client and training.
E-time: One of our programmers is working on programming for an upcoming
online staff leave reporting system.
Global change for wording of SHL note for CDROMS, global deletion of the
temporary SHL for DREF materials removed from the reading room while it
was being renovated.
3. Systems Priorities list / J. Weeks
We started a discussion on the Systems GLADIS Programming Project
List. Several people had sent and email to Judith for their top 10
projects they felt were important. All people who responded felt
that the most important project was to send the OCLC deletes, the next
most important was to reload all SCP serial records. Judith
will tally all responses and send the top 10 list to Charis. The
list was discussed by all with some comments by Charis and Penny.
Judith reminded those in the group who did not respond to send her their
choices by the end of the day so that she may send Charis the final list.
4. [NEW!] Technical Processing questions / Open Discussion
This is a new permanent agenda item so people will have a chance to
discuss any technical processing questions they may have. No
one had anything to discuss at this time. Please bring any
questions you may have to any meeting!
