UC Berkeley Library

You can still access the UC Berkeley Library's services and resources. Here's how.

Using the Library during COVID-19

Many of our services are now being offered in new ways. To find the latest information on course reserves, book returns, 24/7 online help, and more, visit our Library services and resources during COVID-19 page. The information on that page supersedes all other information on the Library website at this time.

How to reserve a study space at Moffitt Library

Content section:

The Library is offering limited study space on Moffitt Library’s fourth and fifth floors for current UC Berkeley undergraduate and graduate students.

How to use the service

Study space is available to current UC Berkeley students for individual study only. Designated seats have been configured to follow campus public health guidelines. See a map of the seating available for reservations. At the current time, we do not offer spaces for groups, computing services, printing, or allow eating and drinking.

Reservations are offered 9 a.m. through 5 p.m., Monday through Friday, and can be made one week in advance. (All reservations are for seats, not rooms.) Reservations can be made for one, two, or three hours. Only one reservation can be made per day. Reservations are not complete until you receive a confirmation email. The Library aims to support as many students as possible while access to campus buildings remains limited. If you are more than 30 minutes late for your reservation, it will be canceled and the seat will be made available to others. Make a reservation.

Before your visit to the library, please review the campus COVID-19 surveillance testing requirements. Be sure to schedule your COVID-19 test a couple of days before your study reservation date.

On the day of your reservation:

  • Come to the Moffitt Library floor 4 entrance (across from Memorial Glade) up to 15 minutes before your reservation.
  • Be prepared to show your green badge in the campus surveillance testing badge system on a mobile device or as a printout.
  • Be prepared to show the results of your daily Symptom Screener survey on a mobile device or as a printout.
  • Be prepared to show your study space reservation confirmation on a mobile device or as a printout.
  • Be prepared to show your Cal 1 Card or CalCentral profile.
  • Queue in line, allowing 6 feet between yourself and others. A Library staff member will greet you at the door when you can enter.
  • Wear your face mask to campus and at all times while in the building.

While in the library:

  • Wear your mask at all times. (Sorry, food and drinks are not allowed at this time.)
  • Study space access is granted only for floors 4 and 5.
  • Sit only in your reserved seat in its designated location on the floor plan. (Seats should not be moved.)
  • Disinfect your space with the wipes provided by the Library before sitting down.
  • Only one person at a time in the restroom.
  • Only one person at a time in the elevator.
  • Use headphones if you are attending virtual meetings. (Virtual meetings are restricted to floor 4; floor 5 is a quiet floor.)
  • No computing services or printing is available at this time.
  • Follow the no eating and drinking policy.
  • Follow the Library’s code of conduct.

Compliance:

The Library has designed the study spaces to follow campus public health guidelines. Please follow all rules as outlined by the Library when you made the reservation for your study seat. Failure to follow these guidelines and the Keep Berkeley Healthy Pledge puts other students and staff at risk and may result in a person losing the ability to make future reservations for study seats at the Library.
