WORKERS NIGHT
AT BIKO STEPS

The recent protests at UC Berkeley are aimed at pressuring the UC Regents to divest 2.4 billion dollars of endowment funds from firms doing business in South Africa. The South African government practices apartheid, or institutionalized racism, affecting 20 million people, or over 70% of the country's population and is dependent on foreign investment for it's continued survival.

Some of you working around campus may have been inconvenienced due to the protests. We hope that you understand that the actions are not direct at you. In fact we feel that you are very much part of the struggle, that your participation and support are crucial. Your pension funds may be invested in South Africa and in this matter you should have a voice ---- also we are all morally affected by the vicious apartheid regime.

Friday evening, May 10, is worker's night on the steps. Come join us for a potluck dinner, entertainment, and discussion on apartheid in South Africa and how workers here can and have fought back against it. Also, join us to sleep the night if you like.

For workers and community people on and off campus, we invite you to the steps at any time. If you'd like to talk, to find out more about apartheid or about divestment, or to devote some time to the cause, please feel free to join us.
