Subject: U.C. POLICE PHOTOGRAPHY AT RALLIES, MARCHES, DEMONSTRATIONS AND OTHER EVENTS
I. PURPOSE:
The purpose of the Administrative Order is to establish policy and procedures for police photography at various University events, including (but not limited to) rallies, marches, demonstrations and other events. This order does not apply to arrest photos, criminal investigations, or crime scenes.
II. POLICY
- Police photography may be utilized at various University events when the below listed acts occur or when the Police Department has prior knowledge that such acts may occur:
- University rule violations.
- Criminal violations.
This prior knowledge may come from personal contacts, printed flyers, University officials, or other sources.
- As delegated by the Chief of Police, the Commanding Lieutenant shall be responsible for the order to photograph an event under the policy and procedures of this Administrative ORder.
- Photography may consist of videotaping, movie and still photography.
- Civilian police photographers are to utilized when the Police Department has advance awareness of the event. Sworn police officers/supervisors shall be utilized when there is no advance warning; however, no Police Department employee is to commence any photography of any event without specific orders from the Commanding Lieutenant.
- All photographic materials shall be assigned a case number. This case number may be the same number used for the overall event.
