Nominating and Elections Committee

Report submitted by Kiyoko Shiosaki (Chair)

Departures last year resulted in our Nominating and Elections Committee (NEC) going from five to four members, with only one continuing member this year.

The NEC updated the LAUC-B Volunteer Form (2023-24), and sent it to LAUC-B membership in January and again in February to identify members interested in serving on the Executive Committee (ExComm) and other committees, including LAUC statewide committees and LAUC Vice Chair. The responses were helpful, but it was necessary for the committee to also do one-on-one outreach to encourage LAUC-B service.

Next year’s election slate for Executive Committee (2023-24) is as follows:

  • for Chair: José Adrián Barragán-Álvarez (current Vice Chair/Chair-Elect pro tem)
  • for Vice Chair/Chair-Elect: Christina Velazquez Fidler
    • The current Chair, Jesse Silva, will become Past Chair
  • for Treasurer: Jackie Gosselar
  • for Secretary: Michael Sholinbeck
  • for two Library Representative seats: Jen Brown, Misha Coleman
  • for Affiliated Library Representative-Elect/CALA Vice Chair: Cyrana Dowell
    • The past year’s Rep-Elect/CALA Chair, Kristie Chamorro, will become the Affiliated Rep on ExComm

We will also take nominations from the floor during the spring assembly. Biographies for all candidates will be available on the LAUC-B website when voting begins.
