l. Annual report

Pauline distributed a draft of the consortium's annual report, which was discussed. Several corrections and minor changes were suggested.

2. Campus Reports

Members from each campus reported on recent developments. Much emphasis was placed on recent budget cuts and ensuing serials cancellations projects for this year.

3. Draft UC/Stanford Social Sciences Bibliographers Rosters

The group talked about the rosters produced by Kathy Creely and Alan Ritch, with much discussion on the scope of the lists. No conclusions were reached about where to draw the line between the social sciences and the humanities, so Kathy's list will be left broad.

4. Draft Statement of Purpose and Goals: Social Science Consortium

After lengthy consideration, members of the group voted to remain as a Sociology-only group, and not to pursue further the option of becoming a general Social Sciences group. Pauline agreed to update the Statement of Purpose and Goals to reflect this aim. Alan agreed to present this to CDC.

5. Chair/s for 1995/96

Beth Sibley and Kathy Creely agreed to serve as co-chairs for the year. It was further agreed that note taking would rotate among all members of the group.

6. Core sociology journal list

The group agreed to put the emphasis on the endangered journals list, rather than trying to cover the titles on the no holdings list as well. Roberta, who is maintaining the master list, will issue list by campus of last copy commitments for bibliographers to check and to firm up commitments. She will also check with bibliographers about new journals on the list.

A memorandum of agreement re. the journals will be drawn up. Roberta will be the project coordinator. Report any changes in the core list to Roberta, so that the agreement can be finalized by December 30. [note: we are just about to have the agreement finalized in April]. Beth will revise the wording of the women's studies agreement to suit our needs and send a draft to the group for review.

7. Electronic resources and initiatives

Alan Ritch reported that the University Librarians had recently agreed propose to fund five new databases out of the remaining SCAP funds. CFC presented the dual funding model to the UL's. The UL's recommendation will be proposed to UCOP Library Council for a decision.

The databases being proposed are MLA, PAIS, Sociofile, new Medline files, and perhaps a music index. For most of these, access would be through OCLC/Firstsearch.
