The University of California was chartered in 1868 as the states only land-grant institution. What began as a single campus first in Oakland, then moving to Berkeley, emerged in the 20th Century as the nations first multi-campus university.
The UC Digital Archives provides a general resource on the history of these campuses, and a platform for accessing related materials in our growing core archive. As in other segments of this project, we are in the initial stages of developing materials, and updating information.
Here you will find access to current publications and scholarly tools such as bibliographies for each UC campus and the UC system.
If you are publishing a resource related to the history of a UC campus or affiliated institution, please notify us to ensure that it is included in the bibliography.
If you are teaching, or have taught, a course related to UC's history, please consider sharing information such as your course description, syllabus, or outstanding student papers or Web resources.
