Persistent Links in ProQuest Databases

Persistent links in ProQuest databases with full-text content:

ProQuest databases with full-text content include Historical Newspapers, AltPress Watch, Ethnic NewsWatch, Dissertations & Theses, American Periodicals, and many more. These databases allow you to provide a persistent link to the database record, and users will be able to easily locate the full text of the document from that link. The full text of the document is located within the ProQuest database itself.

  • From your search results, click on an item title to go to the Full Text-PDF view. The URL in the browser bar is the persistent link.

Persistent links in ProQuest databases without full-text content (indexing-only):

ProQuest databases without full-text content (indexing-only databases) include AGRICOLA, ARTBibliographies Modern, Avery Index to Architectural Periodicals, EconLit, Environmental Sciences and Pollution Management, ERIC, GeoRef, MLA International Bibliography, PAIS International/PAIS Archive, PsycINFO, Sociological Abstracts, and more. You can search these databases to find article citations, then use the UC-eLinks link resolver button (UC-eLinks button) to see if the UC Berkeley Libraries have access to the electronic full text through another vendor.

  1. From your search results, click on an item title to go to the full record view. Scroll down to the bottom of the page to find and copy the Document URL (the permanent link to the database record).

  3. This will provide a link to the item record in the ProQuest database, but (in most cases) will not provide a direct link to the full text of the document. Users will need to use the UC-eLinks link resolver button in order to locate the full text on another vendor's site.
  4. Alternatively, you may want to provide a link directly to the PDF on that vendor's site, rather than providing a persistent link to the database record in ProQuest. Directions for creating persistent links across a variety of vendor platforms can be found here.
