Inventories
Your Inventory is a list of items you currently have checked out
of the UC Berkeley Libraries. It is also the starting point for renewing
materials.
Checking your inventory
Inventories are available only on GLADIS, the command-line telnet version
of the UC Berkeley library catalog (not on Pathfinder, the web version) (Special note for Internet Explorer 7, Windows Vista and/or Firefox users).
As of August 25, 2005, to view the Inventory, you will need your patron ID
number, which is printed on your campus ID card or library card. You will
also need your four digit PIN (Personal Identification Number) consisting
of your birth month and day in MMDD format, or the four digit PIN that you
supplied when you obtained your library card.
- Connect to GLADIS
- Type <gladis>, and press <Enter>.
- Press <Enter> again to start using GLADIS.
- Type <inv>, hit the space bar followed by your patron ID number and press <Enter>.
The patron ID number is the number on your UCB ID or other library issued card.
- When prompted, key your birth month and day in MMDD format, or the four digit PIN that you
supplied when you obtained your library card and press <Enter>.
- To move through your list, follow instructions on the screen.
To renew items, follow these steps:
- Type <ren> hit the <space bar> followed by the line number of the item you
wish to renew and press <Enter>.
- The new due date will be displayed for this item. Please write this
number on the date due slip.
- When finished, protect your privacy by clearing the inventory screen, type <F> and press <Enter>.
What the inventory tells you
- Date Due
- The item is due back, on or before the date indicated, at the library where you checked it out.
- OVERDUE
- An item is overdue when it has not been returned to the owning library by the due date.
- RECALLED
- An item that has been recalled by another patron cannot be renewed and must be returned to the owning library.
- BLOCKED
- Your library privileges will be blocked when an item has exceeded both its due date and its grace period for being returned to the owning library. Blocked items may have already been billed and are not renewable. Blocked
items cause all other library borrowing privileges to be blocked. Blocked items must be returned to the owning library as soon as possible in order for borrowing privileges to be restored.
- BILLABLE
- An item is billable when it has become overdue and is within a set number of days of being billed.
Exceptions
The following will not appear on your Inventory:
- items that were checked out by filling out a paper charge card
- any other items that were not checked out on the GLADIS system
- items you have requested to be retrieved from NRLF
Confidentiality
In order to protect the confidentiality of online access to your library
inventory list, your birth month and day must be part of your Library
patron file record. If you choose not to include this information in your
patron file record, you will be unable to use this online renewal feature.
You will need to continue to request an inventory in person. For more
information, see UC Berkeley
Libraries and User Privacy.
Expired library cards
If your card has expired please contact the Privileges Desk in Doe Library. You will be able to access your inventory but you will not be able to renew any library items until your library card has been updated at the Privileges Desk in Doe Library.
