Sex Ed on Film and Video
From the birds and the bees to dental dams and HIV, the evolution of social hygiene and sex ed films over the past hundred years has been as dramatic as the transformation of a zygote into an acne-plagued teenager. While the focus on just saying “no” to sex may have shifted in some circles to learning how and when to safely say “yes,” there are still a myriad of prudishly simplified anatomical cartoons on the market. And issues related to LGBT youth and youth of color remain especially underrepresented. This sampling highlights the Media Resources Center’s sex education holdings, as well as some recent web series, including productions by UC Berkeley graduate, Laci Green.
