Proxy setup - Google Chrome in Windows

Follow these steps to configure your browser to use the Library Proxy Server

This setup will remain in effect until you cancel it.

  • Your web browser must be set to accept all cookies. If you'd prefer not to do that, consider using the Virtual Private Network (VPN) system rather than the proxy server.
  1. Click the triple equal sign icon in the upper right (Customize and Control Google Chrome).
  2. Click on Settings.
  3. Click on the Show advanced settings ... link
  4. In the Network section, click on the Change proxy settings button.
  5. This will open your computer's Internet Properties window.
  6. Click on the Connections tab.
  7. Click on the LAN settings button.
  8. Check the box next to Use automatic configuration script.
  9. Ignore the "Use a proxy server for your LAN" checkbox.
  10. Type or paste the following URL the Address box:
    http://proxy.lib.berkeley.edu/proxy.pac
  11. Be sure to include "http://", and do not insert any empty spaces before or after the URL.
  12. Click OK to save your LAN settings.
  13. Click OK to close the Internet Properties window.
  14. Close the Options window or tab.

To protect your privacy

When using the proxy server on a shared computer, quit the web browser when your session is finished.

To turn off this setting

Follow steps 1-5 above.
In step 6, click to uncheck the Use automatic configuration script box.
Click OK to save your LAN settings.
Click OK to close the Internet Properties window.
Click Close to close the Google Chrome Settings window.
