Adventures In Iraq (1943)

Directed by by D. Ross Lederman. Cast: John Loder, Ruth Ford, Paul Cavanagh. After their small plane runs out of gas, a pilot with the U.S. Flying Tigers and his two civilian passengers are forced to land near a remote area of Iraq populated with fanatic Arab devil worshippers. They come upon the mysterious Kingdom of Ghatsi where a wealthy and sophisticated Sheik welcomes them to his opulent palace. The three American realize, however, that they have become prisoners in the plush castle and that the Sheik is a Nazi collaborator with evil plans for their future. 64 min.

Affaire Blum (Blum Affair) (Germany, 1948)

Directed by Erich Engel. Cast: Paul Bildt, Hans Christian Blech, Klaus Becker, Gerhard Bienert. A film based on a true case which occured in the 1920's. An accountant responds to an advertisment and gets murdered for his money. Mr. Blum is blamed for the murder because the accountant was about to give evidence about a tax fraud involving Mr. Blum's company. A dramatic presentation about pre-Hitlerite Germany which relates the story of a Jewish businessman falsely accused by anti-Semitic police. 100 min.

Ali Baba and the Forty Thieves (1944)

Directed by Paul Malvern. Cast: Maria Montez, Jon Hall, Andy Devine, Fortunio Bonanova, Frank Puglia, Ramsay Ames, Moroni Olsen, Kurt Katch. Orphaned as a young child and adopted by a band of notorious thieves, now-grown Ali Baba sets out to avenge his father's murder, reclaim the royal throne and rescue his beloved Amara from the iron fist of his treacherous enemy. 87 min. American Matchmaker (Americaner Schadchen) (USA, 1940)

Directed by Edgar G. Ulmer. Cast: Leo Fuchs, Judith Abarbanel, Judel Dubinsky, Anna Guskin, Celia Bodkin, Abraham Lax. In this comedy of second-generation American Jewish immigrants, Nat, who has been unhappily married several times, decides that if he cannot have happiness he can at least bring joy to others by becoming a modern day matchmaker. But life becomes complicated when he realizes that one of his female clients is better suited for him, than the man he originally chose for her. In Yiddish with English subtitles. 87 min.
