Congo, A Curse of Riches

Examines the Belgium exploitation of the Congo as a colony and their atrocities against the natives. In 1960 Belgium gave up the colony and Patrice Lamumba was elected prime minister but was soon assassinated. His death crushed hopes of a free and democratic Congo. Looks at the subsequent rule of Mobutu and how the riches of the region have only brought suffering, corruption and death to the Congolese. Features archival film footage with commentary by authors, academics and historians. Supplementary short issued with: The Adventures of young Indiana Jones. 2007. 32 min.
