The support of all alumni enables the University Library to address the changing needs of Cal's students and faculty. Young alumni - those who have graduated in the last 10 years - make up 25 percent of all living undergraduate Cal alumni. Your participation is essential in establishing a foundation for the strength and excellence of the Library.

The Library enables students and faculty to conduct research that addresses global problems and gain a greater understanding of the human condition. It provides the resources they need for inquiry and new discoveries in fields spanning the sciences, arts and humanities, and social sciences, as well as the interdisciplinary explorations that are a particular strength at Berkeley.

And Berkeley's Library is more than its collections. The Library is a place outside the classroom and away from the distractions of home, where students can focus on learning. Whether studying in the peace and quiet of the main stacks, grabbing coffee with friends at the Free Speech Movement Cafe, researching a paper, or napping in Morrison between classes, students find what they need to thrive at the Library.

Power in numbers

It's not how much you give, but the fact that you choose to give that matters. Every gift counts. Here are some examples of how gifts to the Library are used:

  • Adding new printed and electronic resources to the collections
  • Renovating study spaces like the reading rooms in Doe Library
  • Supporting creative use of library materials by faculty and students
  • Hosting special events to connect the Berkeley community with local authors and poets
  • Implementing unique programs like the Graphic Arts Loan Collection that lends framed, original lithographs, etchings, engravings and other works of art

Why you should participate

Young alumni understand the fundamental role the Library plays in students' lives and the way the Library makes the university’s mission of teaching, research and public service a reality. Support the University Library today by making an online gift!
