David Duer

David Duer

David Duer has been involved with development for most of his career including 12 years with non-profit organizations and independent schools, and 21 years in the University of California System. Prior to joining the Library in 2000, he spent almost 4 years as the Chief Development Officer for the UC Davis Health System in Sacramento, and 10 years with the UC Berkeley College of Engineering. He has a BA from UC Berkeley, and a MS from the University of Southern California. Active as a volunteer, Dave recently served for an eight year period on the West Contra Costa Unified School District Bond Oversight Committee, and he currently serves as District 1 Commissioner for the Contra Costa County Arts and Culture Commission. He also serves on the Library Cabinet, the FSM Cafe Program Committee, and the Berkeley Campaign Management Team.

Wendy Hanson

Wendy Hanson

Wendy Hanson's responsibilities at the library's development office include managing the Library's annual fundraising program involving solicitations of contributions from friends, alumni, students, faculty, and staff; donor stewardship; and promoting the activities and programs of the University Library through the coordination of special advancement events and special library-related projects.

Wendy joined the Library Development Office in 1989. She previously worked for 7 years in UC Berkeley's Office of University Relations, and for 2 years at UC Hastings College of the Law. Wendy earned her Bachelor of Science degree from Cal in 1980, and is proud to be a fourth generation Cal graduate.

Beverly Ingram

Beverly Ingram joined the Library Development staff in 2009, after eight years in UC Berkeley's office of University Relations. She is a proud graduate of the California State University system, with a BA from Sacramento State and an MPA from San Francisco State, and is very excited to be part of the Cal family.

Beverly's responsibilities include donor stewardship and event coordination, and she strives to make all the Library's friends feel welcome and appreciated. In her spare time she enjoys outdoor activities; volunteering with her favorite local organizations One Brick and the California Shakespeare Theater; and of course, reading.

Deborah Maxon

Deborah Maxon

Deborah Maxon manages the Library's major gift programs and corporate and foundation programs, including special initiatives and projects, volunteer and donor relations, and stewardship. She has been involved with development and public affairs for most of her career, including 6 years on the staff of a U.S. Senator and 18 years with the University of California System.

Prior to joining the Library Development Office in 2008, she spent three years as a Senior Development Director in UC Berkeley’s Office of University Relations, and fifteen years in the UC Office of the President’s University and External Affairs office. Deborah is a proud alumna of UC Berkeley and the University of Wyoming.

Damaris Moore

Damaris Moore

Damaris Moore is responsible for chronicling the library's contributions to Berkeley's teaching, research, and service mission; producing the development office newsletter; creating publications such as annual reports, brochures and other materials; website management; and media outreach and publicity. Contact her with your feedback about publications, to suggest a story on a program or person, or to share your thoughts about the library's role at Berkeley.

Damaris joined the development office in 2005, after six years managing communications and marketing at the Graduate Theological Union. Previously, she managed public information and outreach for a research center at UC Berkeley. She earned her undergraduate degree in English at University of Chicago.

Sandy Tesch

Sandy Tesch

Sandy Tesch provides support for the Library's campaign, including developing and implementing solicitation and marketing plans, with a special focus on young alumni.

A 2005 alumna of UC Berkeley, Sandy spent a year after graduation in Washington, DC as a John Gardner Public Service Fellow where she acquired an interest in fundraising and development. Sandy has been an active volunteer with the American Red Cross since high school and she recently completed a 3-year term as chair of the National Youth Council. She enjoys traveling, cross stitch, and great books, music, and movies.

Linda Tran

Linda Tran

Linda Tran assists with any clerical or administrative tasks at the Library Development Office. Her primary responsibilities include processing gifts and pledges made to the University Library. She also maintains the donor and fund records, strengthening the communication between the Library and its supporters through seasonal acknowledgment letters.

During her undergraduate years at Cal, Linda was a student employee exploring her interests in the Library. After graduating in June 2007, she decided to join the department as an official staff member.

While Linda enjoys spending her time at the Library, she is preparing for a teaching career in the not too distant future. She is currently working part-time at LDO and is a full-time student at the Graduate School of Education at UC Berkeley.

Tom Leonard

As University Librarian, Tom Leonard manages Doe, Moffitt, and Bancroft Libraries, as well as over a dozen subject specialty libraries. Since assuming his position in 2001, he has overseen the building of the new Jean Grey Hargrove Music Library and of the new C.V. Starr East Asian Library. He is a professor in the Graduate School of Journalism, and has published several books on the role of the press in society and the origins of modern American journalism.

Leonard earned a 1973 Ph.D. in history from Berkeley, and joined the faculty at Berkeley's School of Journalism in 1976. The whole Leonard family makes broad use of libraries: his wife is a psychologist at UC San Francisco; his daughter has a post-doc appointment in Animal Behavior at University of Arizona; and his son is a graduate student in Scandinavian Studies at the University of Washington.

Frank Carothers

Frank Carothers

As manager of the Library's program for gifts-in-kind since 1982, Frank Carothers has helped countless friends of the University ensure the optimal re-use of their book collections. Offers of works in any of the areas collected by Berkeley may be referred to Frank, who will consult with subject area specialists as necessary to achieve an outcome that is appropriate for the books, their donors, and the Library. Frank has a BA from the University of California at Irvine and an MA from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. When not at the Library he spends time with his daughter, cycling over the Bay Area backroads, or in his garden.
