Find Associations and Societies

Finding associations and societies is often accomplished by using a directory. Listed below are many online directories of associations and societies which provide up-to-date listings. A few are licensed for use by UC Berkeley students, faculty and staff only, but many are freely available to everyone. The library catalogs Pathfinder and Melvyl should be used to find sources in print and may be especially useful to find historical listings. Several of the UC Berkeley libraries provide webpages that list good resources to use to find subject specific associations and societies.

Directory of associations and professional societies.

Gateway to Associations
Produced by the American Society of Association Executives. Information on nearly 6,600 US based associations.

Groups and Organizations
Contains links to professional bodies, learned societies, and similar organisations which may be of interest to those in the UK education community, plus similar organisations worldwide.

Idealist.org: Find Organizations
Action Without Borders. Includes nonprofit and community organizations, volunteer opportunities, job and internship listings all over the world.

Scholarly Societies Project
A listing based sponsored by The University of Waterloo, Canada. Includes links to home pages for engineering associations and societies commonly provide information about organization and membership, upcoming events, calls for conference papers, press releases and job announcements.

Yearbook of international organizations (UCB access only)
(Click log in near top left, then select International Organizations or other database)
Union of International Associations, (1967-) This resource includes all data published in the printed Yearbook of International Organizations (Volumes 1A, 1B, 2, 3, and 4), Who's Who in International Organizations, and the whole Encyclopedia: World Problems, Strategies, Human Development, Human Values, and more.

Pathfinder (UC Berkeley) and Melvyl (all UC campuses)

Pathfinder is the catalog for most of the UC Berkeley libraries. Melvyl is the catalog of materials available from the libraries of the ten UC campuses and other research collections in the state; it includes some UC Berkeley affiliated libraries not included in Pathfinder.
