Find Newspapers (by title)

» If you don't know which newspapers you want, use our News Article Databases page.

» To find a newspaper when you know its title or place of publication, follow the instructions below.

OskiCat (UC Berkeley)
OskiCat is the catalog of materials, including newspapers, in UC Berkeley library collections. One of the largest collections of newspapers in print and on microfilm is available in Newspapers & Microforms (Room 40, Doe Library, Basement).

  • Select "Title" from the menu list, type in the title you want, then limit to "Journals/Magazines/Newspapers"
  • If you know only a word or two from the title, choose "Keyword(s)"
  • Go to Advanced Keyword Search for more options, such as "Language" and "Year of Publication"
  • Note the Location; those with "Electronic Location(s)" are available online.

Melvyl (all UC campuses)
Melvyl is the catalog of materials, including newspaper titles, available from the libraries at the ten UC campuses and other research collections in the state. Most of the UC Berkeley affiliated libraries' collections are included in this catalog. Current UC Berkeley students, faculty, and staff may request materials not owned by UC Berkeley through the online Request feature in Melvyl.

Newspaper Titles Database (libraries worldwide)
The International Coalition on Newspapers (iCON) Project, housed at the Center for Research Libraries, provides a database of more than 20,000 newspaper titles from over 150 countries dating back over 350 years. This is a useful source for identifying the titles of newspapers from a region during a given time period.

WorldCat (libraries worldwide)
WorldCat is a library catalog for materials owned by libraries worldwide. Current UC Berkeley students, faculty, and staff may request materials not owned by UC Berkeley through the Library's Interlibrary Borrowing Service.
