Find Statistics and Numeric Data

The Library provides access to an extensive amount of numeric data. Our holdings include:

  • social/demographic data, (e.g., surveys and censuses)
  • microeconomic data, (e.g., labor market and industrial indicators)
  • U.S. and foreign macroeconomic data
  • political science data, (e.g., election results and voter surveys)

To find numeric data in the Library, the following resources provide a useful starting point:

Pathfinder (UC Berkeley)
Pathfinder is the catalog of materials, including computer datafiles, in UC Berkeley library collections. A few of the UC Berkeley affiliated libraries' collections are also included in this catalog. Some datafiles are available on the Library's internal network while others must be checked out at the Doe Reference Desk (Doe Library, floor 2).

To locate a datafile using Pathfinder:

  • Use a title phrase or title keyword search with terms from the document title.
  • Limit by Publication Format: "Computer Files"
  • Do not limit by Publication Format: "Computer Files" if you're looking for early census, United States and world data.
  • From the list of titles, click on "Availability" to see if an item is not checked out.
  • Note the Location of items; those with "Electronic Location(s)" are available online.
