Reference Collections
The Doe/Moffitt Libraries are the principal libraries for more than fifty academic departments and programs. Collections, services, and programs also serve the broader campus community, the public, and an international community of scholars and researchers. The reference collections support research and facilitate access to resources.

The Doe Reference Collection is a non-circulating collection of approximately 45,000 volumes, numerous electronic resources, and several thousand microfiche, primarily covering the humanities, area studies, social sciences, and government information. The collection represents most languages, geographic regions, and chronological periods.
The collection is is especially strong in art history, library and information science, ethnic, gender, and media studies, governmental and commercial statistical publications, demographic data, political almanacs, congressional handbooks and manuals, history, language and literature, performing arts, philosophy, political science, religion, and sociology.
Doe Reference has basic materials in subjects covered in depth by the Anthropology, Business/Economics, Education/Psychology, Environmental Design, Music, and Social Welfare libraries. The collection includes only general dictionaries, encyclopedias, handbooks, directories, and biographical sources for the pure and applied sciences, engineering, and law, which are comprehensively covered by subject libraries.
Doe Reference collections are located in the Reference Hall, North Reading Room, and Heyns Reading Room, (Doe Library Floor 2) and are listed in the library catalog as Doe Reference or DREF and Govt Refe or GREF.
The Moffitt Reference Collection is comprised of 1,500 non-circulating volumes, primarily covering the humanities and social sciences. The collection supports the basic information, current coursework, beginning research, and information literacy needs of the UC Berkeley undergraduates. The collection is especially strong in history, including guides to compilations of primary sources in American history, literature, and ethnic studies. Geographical emphasis is on the United States; and is more selective for Latin American, Western Europe, Asia, and Africa. The collection emphasizes 19th century to the present and is primarily English language. The Moffitt Reference collection is located on floor 3 and is listed in the library catalog as Moffitt Reference or MREF.
Specialized Collections in Doe:
Art History/Classics Library (AH/C)
Contains major guides to museum collections, important bibliographies and mostly specialized reference titles; includes Greek and Latin language dictionaries, biographical works, handbooks and encyclopedias related to classical studies, and a complete Loeb Classical Library collection. AH/C Library is located in Doe Library (Floor 3) and is listed in the library catalog as Art/Classics or AH-C.
Periodicals/Newspaper/Microform Room (PNM)
Includes newspaper indexes and microform guides. PNM is located on the Doe Library (Floor 1) and listed in the library catalog as Periodicals or PERI and News/Micro or NEWS.
South/Southeast Asia Library (SSEAL)
Contains a comprehensive non-circulating print collection of subject and national bibliographies, periodical indexes, dictionaries, atlases, biographical works, directories, and statistical annuals. SSEAL is located Doe Library (Floor 1) and listed in the library catalog as S/SE Asia or SSEA.
