NATIONAL

  • Subject index to hundreds of scientifically conducted opinion surveys in the US. Section I lists all the questions under broad, alphabetically arranged subject headings. Each entry identifies organization conducting poll, its date, type of responses solicited. Section II gives sources of polling results. Indexes the following well-known polls: Gallup, Harris, Roper, ABC, CBS, NBC, California/Field. Responses to questions in the Index can be found in the companion fiche set, American Public Opinion Data.

  • Inter-university Consortium for Political and Social Research is an organization of 325 member institutions working together to acquire and preserve social science data and to provide open and equitable access to the data. A data archive is maintained at U of Michigan that receives, processes, and distributes data on social phenomena occurring in 130 countries. Included are surveys of mass and elite attitudes, census records, election returns, international interactions, and legislative records.

  • Public Opinion Poll Question Database. IRSS Data Archives (http://www.irss.unc.edu/data_archive/pollsearch.html)
  • The Institute for Research in Social Sciences at the University of North Carolina is one of the largest and oldest data archives in the US. It is the repository for all Louis Harris public opinion data and Roper Center nonproprietary poll data, and the headquarters for the National Network of State Polls. IRSS maintains a computerized catalog of more than 2800 studies and series in its data holdings arranged by title, principal investigator, and subject.

  • Gallup Poll (http://www.gallup.com)
  • The world's premier source for public opinion data since 1935. This site provides the most recent Gallup polls, special reports and news releases as well as information about the Gallup organization.

  • Roper Center for Public Opinion Research Center.
  • The Roper Center was founded in 1946 and its collection of domestic and international collections of survey data is the most complete in existence. The Center's Public Opinion Location Library (iPOLL) gives online access to a database including poll questions asked in US from 1936 to present. It is available by subscription from the Center and through LEXIS/NEXIS and DIALOG.
