The Daily Californian Newsprint/Newsfilm

• The Daily Californian is an independent, student-run newspaper published by
  the Independent Berkeley Students Publishing Company, Inc. For an indepth
  description/history of The Daily Californian, please visit the website at:

• All issues of The Daily Californian or The Daily Cal, as it is often referred to,
  from Jan 1874 - recent date, are available on microfilm in the Newspaper/Microform
  Collection, Room 40, Doe Library at U.C. Berkeley.

• Current newsprint issues, not yet microfilmed, are available in our open Newsprint
  Stack area and also on the worldwide web at www.dailycal.org.

• Microfilm reels of The Daily Cal are filed along with other California newsfilm
  alphabetically by state name (California), followed by city name (Berkeley) and then,
  by newspaper title (Daily Californian).

• Issues of The Daily Cal dating from Aug 6, 1999 through the most recent issue
  are also available on the Worldwide Web at: www.dailycal.org. To search archival issues,
  scroll down to the bottom of the page. On the right side will be a link to the
  "ARCHIVES". That link will take you to a pull-down menu where you can choose
  the year you would like to search. Then you can keyword search year-by-year,
  the categories: General, Headline, Author, Photographed by and Illustrated by.

• If keyword searching does not bring up what you are looking for, you can
  peruse the pdf version of the newsprint, manually scanning the text.

• (Please note: the online "ARCHIVES" go back to August 1999 only.
  Earlier "ARCHIVES" are available in Microfilm format only.)

Indices to The Daily Californian

• Although a comprehensive cumulative index is not available for The Daily Cal,
  several indices, in various formats, do exist for most of The Daily Cal.
  From July 1994-July 1999, The Daily Cal does not have an index.
  August 1999 to current is keyword searchable on the web.
