SUBJECT HEADINGS
- Most books can be found in the online catalogs under the broad Library
of Congress subject headings:
- bisexuals [or] bisexuality,
- homosexuals [or] homosexuality,
- gays, gay men,
- lesbians [or] lesbianism,
- transsexuals [or] transsexualism.
- These terms can be used with subheadings such as biography,
legal status/laws, political activity, psychology, etc. More specific headings
include:
- coming out (sexual orientation),
- gay liberation movement, gay
rights,
- gay parents, gay [or] lesbian youth,
- gender identity, homophobia,
- etc. Names of organizations can also be searched as corporate author or
subject: for ex., Mattachine Society, ACT UP, etc.
Listings of articles in journals, magazines, newspapers, etc. Many include abstracts (article summaries). Some include or link to the full text of articles.

- San Francisco Bay Area gay and lesbian serials: A guide to the microfilm
collection. (HQ76.8U5A12W3 1991 Doe Ref, News/Micro); for a list of the titles
included in the microfilm set, search under series: San Francisco Bay Area
gay and lesbian serial collection. The microfilm reels for each title are
located in News/Micro Room.
- Guide to over 80 Bay Area gay and lesbian serial titles from the early
1950s. The originals are housed in the Gay and Lesbian Historical Society
in SF.
- Some of the gay and lesbian magazines and journals currently received in

- Sexual Orientation and Social Conflict Collection, Bancroft Library. A recent collection of primary and secondary sources that covers various political, social and
legal issues and events involving the intersection of gay/lesbian heterosexual communities. The primary focus is on California since the end of World War II. To find what materials are presently available check GLADIS under "f se sexual orientation and social conflict collection."
- Oral histories of UC Berkeley gay alums are also housed in Bancroft and can be found in GLADIS under "f se gay bears oral history series." Presently there are eight oral histories available.
