Primary Source Information
California Ballot Measures Database (1911-Present) Courtesy UC Hastings Law Library, this database contains the text of the voter guides given to the public at the time of the election. The ballot pamphlet (known today as the "voter guide") contains
the official arguments for and against each proposition, as well as names or people and organizations for and against. Also contains the pdf images of the ballot pamphlets.
Los Angeles Times via Proquest UCB ONLY
Contains
the full text of the Los Angeles Times from 1881-1986. Search for your propositions and limit to the year of the election. Use this to look up names of people and organizations for and against your propositions and to find newspaper stories from the time.
LexisNexis Academic UCB ONLY
Contains all court cases for California and the United States. If your proposition was the basis of a lawsuit or was overturned by a court decision, you can find the decision (known as a court opinion) in this database. Click on the "Legal" tab, then click on "Federal and State Cases" to start searching for court cases.
San Francisco Chronicle
Unfortunately the SF Chronicle has not yet been digitized past 1922, so you will need to use the microfiche index and the microfilm to find articles for your research. There are 2 microfiche indexes for this newspaper:

Images are organized into thematic and institutional collections, such as historical topics, nature, places, and technology. Use Google to search the Online Archive of California by entering site:oac.cdlib.org as part of your Google search.

Project Muse UCB ONLY
250 scholarly journals in the humanities and social sciences. Topics include literature and criticism, history, the visual and performing arts, cultural studies, education, political science, gender studies, economics and many others.
Google Scholar UCB ONLY when using UCeLinks
Lists journal articles, books, preprints, and technical reports in many subject areas (though more specialized article databases may cover any given field more completely). Some listings include links to related articles and to other sources that cite the item. Includes content from free resources (such as ArXiv.org and university websites) as well as subscription resources (such as electronic journals from selected publishers). Use the UC-eLinks option, when available, to find the UCB access to a publication. To set up UC eLinks, click on Scholar Preferences, then look at Library Links. If "University of California Berkeley - UC-eLinks" is not there, use the Find Library search box to find UC Berkeley. Click the box for "University of California Berkeley - UC-eLinks" and scroll down to save preferences. Make sure you configured your computer for the proxy server for this to work. UC-eLinks will not be a button but text in the search results.
