Release of Liability and Memo of Understanding

Standards:
DIL's philosophy of digital image capture can be summarized as "scan once, re-use for many purposes." DIL expects that their master files should be useful for disparate, demanding purposes including scholarly study and high-quality publication, so they follow standards (including California Digital Library Standards) for resolution, image composition, and file format to ensure the ongoing value of the images.
More information on DIL's imaging practices

Pricing:
For a price list for the Digital Imaging Lab, please contact Dan Johnston or Lynne Grigsby-Standfill. Please include in your email:

  • the number of items/scans
  • the material of items to be scanned (e.g., negatives, photos, etc)
  • the size of the items to be scanned
  • the fragility of the items to be scanned
  • the binding type of the items to be scanned

Schedule:
The DIL project schedule is constantly changing. Projects are scheduled by weighing the type of scanning needed, the deadline of the project, and the capacity of DIL.

If you would like more information about the current DIL project schedule, please contact Lynne Grigsby-Standfill.

Release of Liability and Memo of Understanding

Non-UC materials sent to DIL are handled, treated, and stored in accordance with the practices the Library uses in working with its own collections. However, it was determined that a release of liability was a necessary precaution for materials being digitized from non-UC organizations. The Release of Liability form should be printed, signed and sent in with the items to be scanned.

UC materials sent to DIL are also handled, treated, and stored in accordance with the practices the Library uses in working with its own collections. However, it was determined that a memo of understanding was a necessary precaution for materials being digitized from other UC organizational units outside the UC Berkeley Library. The Memo of Understanding form should be printed, signed and sent in with the items to be scanned.
