Add the "optional template" to an existing non-homepage
page with Netscape Composer
- Make sure all of the graphics on the page have the correct URL. See Edit existing HTML files with Netscape
Composer for assistance.

Input the new background graphic URL:
-
click on Format in the menu bar.
-
click on Page Colors and Properties.
- in the Page Properties dialog box, make sure that the Colors and
Backgrounds "tab" is selected.
-
edit the URL in the location box to change the page's background
color/graphic. The location box appears at the bottom of the dialog box,
in the section entitled Background Image.
-
go to the Background
Color Gallery for a list of pre-designed background graphics.
- check the small box next to the text : "Leave image at the original
location."
-
click on O.K., or Enter to close the dialog box.
-
Place the cursor at the top left of the page (can also use ctrl home).
-
Click on the Table icon in the menu bar.
-
In the New Table Properties dialog box:
-
create a table that has one row, and 2 columns (this is the default).
-
set the Table Alignment to left (this is the default).
-
do not click on the caption radio buttons
-
change the border line width to zero (Composer will use dashed lines to
outline the table).
-
do not type in the Cell spacing or padding boxes yet.
-
type in Table Width equals 90%.
-
do not type in the Table min_height box yet.
-
un-check the Equal column widths box.
-
do not mess around with the Table Background box yet.
-
click on O.K., or Enter to close the dialog box.

Place the cursor in the left data cell. Click on the right
mouse button:
-
select and click on Table Properites.
-
make sure that the cell "tab" is selected.
-
change the cell width to 10% -- adjust this percentage if necessary.
-
click on O.K., or Enter to close the dialog box.
- Use the arrow key (not the tab key) to move to the right data
cell. Click on the right mouse button:
-
select and click on Table Properites.
-
make sure that the cell "tab" is selected.
-
change the cell width to 90% - adjust this percentage if necessary.
-
in the Horizontal Alignment section of the dialog box, click on
the "Center" button.
-
click on O.K., or Enter to close the dialog box.
-
Highlight and cut the top navigation bar graphic.
-
Paste the image into the right hand cell.
-
Make sure that the cursor is to the right of the navigation bar graphic.
Click on the right mouse button:
-
move the cursor to insert.
-
move the cursor to Row. Click.
-
Follow the instructions in number 6 to give the left data cell a width
of 10%.
-
Follow the instructions in number 7 to give the right data cell a width
of 90%.
-
Insert the header text or image into the right data cell.
-
Save the file. Composer will give the file the same name that
it has on the Library Web server. Keep this name.

Follow the directions in number 10 to add another row.
-
Follow the directions in number 6 to alter the left hand cell width to
10%.
-
if you wish, use this left hand cell as a table of contents for the page,
or the standard navigational area for your web site.
-
if you choose to use this cell for navigational/toc links or graphics,
follow the directions in number 6 to change the cell's horizontal alignment
to left, or right.

Follow the directions in number 7 to alter the right hand cell width to
90%, but do not horizonatlly align this cell in the center. This
cell should either horizontally align to the default position, or to
the left. This is your main information cell. Copy/cut
and paste, or type information into this cell.

Create the next row using the instructions in 10, 6 and 7. The right
hand cell should be horizontally aligned in the center.

Copy/cut and paste the bottom four navigation graphics into the
right hand cell.

Create one last row using the instructions in 10, 6 and 7. The right
hand cell should be horizontally aligned in the center.

Copy/cut and paste the statement of responsibility/update information
into the right hand cell.

Revise the updated date.
-
Save the file.
-
FTP the
file to the Library Web.
