TEI Best Practices
Encoding:
CDL has established a Working Group to develop TEI Standards for documents being included in the CDL system (www.oac.cdlib.org/texts/).
In the interim, the Digital Publishing Group (DPG) has documented our Best Practices to ensure a base level of consistency in the content and structure of TEI encoding, which will benefit both users and system designers.
DPG Best Practices for TEI
After Apex:
When Apex is done encoding, the electronic file is sent to DPG (the paper file they were sent is NOT returned).
DPG then checks following:
- Illegible text
- Correctly encoded upper case heads, italic text, and underlined text
- If the document has an index, links are checked for correct encoding
- First and last paragraphs on every page
- Overall document structure
DPG does not check:
- Typos
- Missing sentences, or other text
