TEI Best Practices

Encoding:
CDL has established a Working Group to develop TEI Standards for documents being included in the CDL system (www.oac.cdlib.org/texts/).

In the interim, the Digital Publishing Group (DPG) has documented our Best Practices to ensure a base level of consistency in the content and structure of TEI encoding, which will benefit both users and system designers.

DPG Best Practices for TEI

After Apex:
When Apex is done encoding, the electronic file is sent to DPG (the paper file they were sent is NOT returned).

DPG then checks following:

1. Illegible text
2. Correctly encoded upper case heads, italic text, and underlined text
3. If the document has an index, links are checked for correct encoding
4. First and last paragraphs on every page
5. Overall document structure

DPG does not check:

1. Typos
2. Missing sentences, or other text
