EAD Encoding Tools

As EAD has spread in popularity more and more tools are available for creating EAD encoded content. However, we are only listing the tools that we use and/or support.

EAD XPress: a Word-based application for creating new finding aids via an input interface. Once input is complete, push-button export produces two documents: a fully-encoded EAD file, and a highly-formatted Word file suitable for printing out. Please contact Lynne Grigsby if you are interested in learning more about this tool.

OAC EAD Toolkit: This "toolkit" of freeware and OAC-developed resources is provided for contributing members of the OAC to assist in the creation, editing, manipulation, proofing, and viewing of EAD-encoded finding aids that are compliant with the OAC Best Practice Guidelines for Encoding New Finding Aids, Version 1.0.
