Audio Best Practices

The California Digital Library (CDL) is working on the Audio Format Standards and Audio Best Practices for digital audio, just as they developed these for imaging. A draft was released for comment in 2002 and should be made public soon.

The UC Berkeley Library is waiting on the Audio Engineering Society Working Group on Digital Library and Archive Systems (SC-03-06) for the technical metadata requirements for Audio. Drafts of the schemas are out for comments and should be released soon.

The scope of the SC-03-06 Working Group on Digital Library and Archive Systems addresses, within the scope of SC-03, the application of digital technologies for media preservation and access. Among the topics covered are strategies for content conversion and migration, content integrity, methods of access and distribution, storage systems and media, formats for preservation and distribution, and metadata and documentation.
