DMDCAF Film Productions

DMD graduation "performance" of June 23, 2002--a comic experience!

We Remember Maui 2002 is the exceptional adventure of fourteen Marina Middle School eighth grade graduates on the island of Maui!

One of a Kind: My Amazing Mom is the true story of Madeline Jane Dunham, at least according to "Purple Mad" in this oral history/documentary film project.

Coach is the true story of the most intense middle school girls' basketball coach in herstory.

Bay Area Repertory Theaters (click links for current calendars)

Castro Theater is the classic on Castro Street and now that they refurbished the seats, when the mighty wurlizter is going it doesn't get any better than here...but the theaters below may be in greater need of your patronage so don't forget them!

Fine Arts Cinema
: The Fine Arts Cinema's doors have reopened until at least the end of 2002!! Support them until they close for about two years, but continue to check their web site or join their mailing list as they will be having some "on the road" screenings at various locations. Their unique programming is worth paying attention to, and worth looking forward to their full time return in 2004--particularly with the demise of the UC Theater--support independent theater!!

Pacific Film Archive is the University Art Museum's long running film program in Berkeley.. Fascinating international films that you'll find nowhere else in the Bay Area and much more.

Paramount Theater in Oakland was built in 1931 as a movie palace. It has struggled through many years, but now is a first rate concert venue and home to a special series of Friday night old time films, complete with newsreels, cartoons, Dec-O-Win with prizes, and the Mighty Wurlitzer.

Parkway Theater is Oakland's unique home of the "picture, pub, and pizza" for a unique big screen movie experience with couches, entrees, and alcohol if you like. A nice mix of slightly old mainstream, independent films, and midnight movies with commentaries!

Rafael Film Center is the fancy new headquarters/host of the Mill Valley Film Festival, but it also shows a fascinating mix of films you may not see anywhere else, including several other festivals throughout the year.

Red Vic Movie House is a wonderful co-op movie theater on Haight Street with a great selection of films and reusable popcorn and drink containers (and it's one of the first places Candice stood David up).

Roxie Cinema on 16th Street and Valencia in SF (just a couple blocks from the 16th and Mission Bart Station) shows a bunch of films that are too dark for us, but also is frequently the only venue to show a great many films we desperately want to see!

SF Gate Film Listings for an overall listing of films currently showing. They do a pretty good job of listing all of the short run films as well, though those are less likely to have descriptions. And you can find all your mainstream fare and showtimes here.

Film Festivals/Societies/Resources

Arab Film Festival runs November 1-12 this year and promises to be an intriguing collection of films showing at the Roxie, the Fine Arts Cinema, and the Castro.

Cine Accion hosts the Cine Latino! film festival every year in San Francisco in the fall and has events year round.

Cinequest Film Festival in San Jose every year has a plentiful program.

Film Arts Foundation in San Francisco has a festival in the fall, program throughout the year, and excellent classes/resources/equipment/information for aspiring filmmakers.

New College Film Series has a series of documentary films on Ecology and Social Justice at the New College of California on 777 Valencia Street in San Francisco.

The Orinda Film Festival had an amazing first year in 2002! Come join us for an even better second year September 26-28, 2003!!

SF Indiefest is hosting several diverse film festivals throughout the year--the wonderfully varied 2nd Annual San Francisco Documentary Festival was just completed, but check the web site for frequent screenings of films at Jezebel's Joint on 510 Larkin at Turk in SF.

San Francisco Film Society hosts the annual SF International Film Festival, among other events.

Director/Film Sites

Atom Egoyan is one of our favorite directors, most of all for making Exotica and Calendar, and it's a pretty interesting web site.

Internet Movie Database for all your searching possibilities.

Iranian Women in Cinema is a thorough and interesting site with lots of information about, you guessed it, the impressive world of Iranian women filmmakers.

Peter Jackson a page dedicated to the guy we think of as brilliant for having made Heavenly Creatures and Meet The Feebles, though some people mistakenly think a trilogy currently unfolding is his finest work.

Maysles Films is an outstanding site with a library of information on their films, as well as shorts on the site!

Lourdes Portillo is an innovative Chicana documentary filmmaker who deals with powerful subjects including the massive disappearances of young women in Juarez in Senorita Extraviada.

Tribute The Movie is a fun and funny look at rock and roll tribute bands, as well as SuperFan!.

What I Got is an outstanding documentary looking at the lives of five intriguing women.

Women Make Movies is an excellent site dedicated to women who make movies, including a catalog, news, and more.
