19th Century British Newspapers
Contains full runs of 49 papers selected by the British Library as representative. It contains regional and national papers in England as well as papers from Scotland, Ireland and Wales. Content comes from penny papers read by the working class and papers advocating political or social movements such as Reform, Chartism and Home Rule.
Times Digital Archive
Online access, fully searchable full text of over 200 years (1785 to 1985, with 1986 to 2003 added later this year) of The London Times, the "world's newspaper of record." [Note: "Sunday Times" is a distinct newspaper with no editorial connection to The Times London, and is not included in this database.]
Sunday Times Digital Archive, 1822-2006
180 years and 600,000 pages of the The Sunday Times. (Despite the similarity of names, The Sunday Times is an entirely separate paper from The Times until 1st January 1967, when both papers came under the common ownership of Times Newspapers Ltd. To this day, The Sunday Times remains editorially independent from The Times, with its own remit and perspective on the news.)
California & Historic Newspapers
Please Note: A librarian at Bowling Green University has compiled a guide that, according to her, lists all publicly accessible digitized historical newspapers. This is new, so I haven't had a chance to explore it, but it looks like it might be very useful for some of you.
In News/Micro you will find microfilm of many California newspapers. Few of them are indexed so you should prepare before your visit a list of dates of issues that you want to look at.
The San Francisco Chronicle is available full text online only up to 1922. Indexes for other years are available in News/Micro:

Offers over 200,000 pages of California newspapers spanning the years 1849-1911: the Alta California, 1849-1891; the San Francisco Call, 1893-1910; the Amador Ledger, 1900-1911; the Imperial Valley Press, 1901-1911; the Sacramento Record-Union, 1859-1890; and the Los Angeles Herald, 1905-1907. Additional years are forthcoming, as are other early California newspapers: the Californian; the California Star; the California Star and Californian; the Sacramento Transcript; the Placer Times; and the Pacific Rural Press.

Access World News
Limit your search to California newspapers by selecting the state from the list of locations. Another option is to choose a specific publication from the Source List tab. The source list also shows the years of coverage for each publication.
Limit your search to California newspapers by choosing the News option on the left of the screen, then choose All News. FUnder "Select Source" choose US Newspapers & Wires. Under "Article Location" choose US State and limit to California. When your results are displayed, there is an option on the left to see results only from Newspapers and from specific California news publications.
Ethnic News Watch
Fewer publications are indexed in this resource than in the others listed here, but coverage goes back further, in some cases to the mid-1960s. The advance search allows you to limit by location of interest.

This site allows users to search and view newspaper pages from 1880-1922 and find information about American newspapers published between 1690-present. To date, over 200,000 pages of California newspapers have been digitized. Chronicling America is sponsored jointly by the National Endowment for the Humanities and the Library of Congress as part of the National Digital Newspaper Program (NDNP).
19th Century U.S. Newspapers
Images of both full pages and clipped articles for hundreds of 19th century U.S. newspapers. For each issue, the newspaper is captured from cover-to-cover, providing access to every article, advertisement and illustration.
There is no one source you can use to search the entire run of the Daily Cal; to find articles on your topic you'll need to use an index. Complicating matters is that the index to the Daily Cal has changed format many times, so where you look depends on the time period you are interested in.
1874-1929 is indexed in a card file in Bancroft’s University Archive. Easier to get to is the microfilm copy of the card file, which is in Newspaper/Micro Room under call no.: MICROFILM 20031 (3 reels).
1930-June 1991 is indexed in card file located in Newspaper/Micro Room.
July 1991-June 1994 is indexed in a printed index, which can be found in both: Doe Reference Periodical Indexes [AJ21.D333] and in the Newspaper Microform Room [AJ21.D29] and at the Online Archive of California.
September 1997 - current is in Lexis/Nexis (use Easy Search, enter Daily Californian in the By Source Title box
June 1999 - current is also indexed and searchable on the Daily Cal website.
