Can I continue to print while connected to the VPN?

If the printer is physically attached to your computer, it should continue to work while your VPN connection is active.

If the printer is connected via a wireless or other Local Area Network, you will have to change a setting in the VPN client to "enable local LAN access".

You can also defer printing by choosing the "print to file" option to save the print stream on your computer, then print the resulting file after you disconnect from the VPN.

What do I need to do to get a refund if I find the books?

To receive a refund for billed items paid the original items checked out must be returned and a request for refund must be made within 90 days of payment. Go to the Library Privileges Desk in Doe Library with the original receipt of payment and photo ID. Complete the refund request form. A refund check will be issued within 6 to 12 weeks. Please note: processing/billing fees are non-refundable.

What should I do if I believe my credit/debit card was charged twice?

Check your credit card or bank account to make certain. If your account was debited twice contact the Library Privileges Desk at (510) 642-3403 or privdesk@library.berkeley.edu

After making payment online, how long does it take before my library account is cleared?

Bills are cleared immediately after the PayPal transaction is approved. Close the confirmation window and return to the fines to be paid page. Refresh the page to have the payment reflected on the screen. Please note that the fines to be paid page does not refresh automatically.

Will I get a confirmation number that payment was accepted?

A confirmation window will appear on screen after payment is approved. An email message will be sent with the receipt to the user’s email address.

Can I choose which invoice(s) to pay? Can I partial pay?

Yes, there is the option to select which invoice(s) to pay. Partial payment of an individual charge cannot be made.

Why scanning stations?

As part of the transition when the Library’s previous copy service contract expired in 2010, we surveyed our users about their needs and other university libraries about their services. Based on that input, the Library chose to acquire equipment that allowed for scanning/downloading and develop services similar to those in other libraries.

Scanning to a flash drive is free. The Library provides printing at rates that cover our costs for the equipment and staff who maintain them.

The ability to scan to a flash drive saves paper and enables users to store and organize their material more efficiently. Scans can be delivered in multiple file types, at a lower cost than photocopies. Our prices for printing are consistent with, and in some cases lower than, those in other UC libraries.

I'd like to donate books to the library. How do I arrange that?

The Library will gratefully consider all gifts of recorded information which meet the instructional and research needs of the Berkeley academic community. Questions about gifts to the Library should be directed to Dirk Kennedy.

Please see Give Now: Book Donations regarding criteria for acceptance, tax and appraisal considerations, and other information.
