Is there a list of wheelchair accessible computers in the Libraries?

All libraries have at least one wheelchair-accessible station. Please see our Disability resources - Physical disabilities page for more information.

Can I renew my books online?

You can renew most books online, except for:

  • items recalled by another person
  • items with a very short loan period (such as most course reserves)
  • items overdue to the point that they have blocked your borrowing privileges
  • items billed for replacement.

To renew books online, click on the Renew Items tab in OskiCat, or the My OskiCat link in the top right corner of every OskiCat screen.

Where can I find information on citation styles?

The citing sources page gives a rundown of the major citation styles, with links to detailed guides on the APA, MLA, and Chicago formats.

What does NRLF mean?

This stands for the Northern Regional Library Facility. Located at the Berkeley Global Campus on the Richmond Field Station grounds, NRLF is the off-site shelving facility for UC Berkeley, UC Davis, UC Santa Cruz, UC Merced, and UC San Francisco. Materials in all formats are shelved at NRLF including books, manuscripts, newspapers, long-playing records, microforms, audiocassettes, videotapes, and maps.

The OskiCat and Melvyl catalogs include materials kept at NRLF. UC Berkeley students, faculty, staff and patrons with a library card, can request delivery to the UCB campus via OskiCat.

Also, many NRLF items have been scanned and are available online from HathiTrust and Google Books. For more information, see our find books and ebooks page.

An item I requested from the NRLF has arrived, but I don't have time to pick it up today. How long will they hold it for me?

The Library will typically hold your NRLF item for 7-10 days after we receive it - check with your library to inquire about specific hold times.

I lost a book. How much will it cost to replace it? Who do I need to contact?

The standard replacement charge is $150 per item, plus a nonrefundable processing fee of $10.

If the actual replacement cost of a particular item (including costs to order and catalog the item) is greater than $150, more will be charged.

If the borrower has been billed for replacement of a book, and the individual can provide a replacement acceptable to The Library, the $150 replacement charge will be canceled.

To follow up on a particular item, contact the library where it was originally located.

Is there a limit to the amount of materials I can check out under my name at any one time?

Yes. On the borrow page, see the section that outlines loan periods and check-out limits.

Does the library provide document delivery?

Document delivery is available to faculty and graduate students for a fee by the BAKER document retrieval and delivery service.
