DATA & SOFTWARE
| back to Internet Resources
- AQUISTAT - provides information on water and agriculture by countries in the following main categories: Land use and population; Climate and water resources; Water use, by sector and by source; Irrigation and drainage development; and Environment and health
- Bay Delta and Tributaries (BDAT) - BDAT contains environmental data concerning the San Francisco Bay-Delta and provides public access to that data.
-
California Data Exchange Center - Dept. of Water Resources
- Climate and Hydrology Database Projects (CLIMDB/HYDRODB) - Climatological and Hydrological Data Access
- Climate Data and Information for California
- Collaboratory for Multi-scale Chemical Science - The Collaboratory for the Multi-scale Chemical Science (CMCS) brings together leaders in scientific research and technological development across multiple DOE laboratories, other government laboratories and academic institutions to develop an open "knowledge grid" for multi-scale informatics-based chemistry research.
- EPA's Envirofacts - A single point of access to select U.S. EPA environmental data. This website provides access to several EPA databases to provide you with information about environmental activities that may affect air, water, and land anywhere in the United States. With Envirofacts, you can learn more about these environmental activities in your area or you can generate maps of environmental information.
- Integrated Water Resources Information System (IWRIS) - IWRIS is a data management tool for water resources data. It is a web based GIS application that allows you to access, integrate, query, and visualize multiple sets of data. Some of the databases include DWR Water Data Library, California Data Exchange Center (CDEC), USGS streamflow, Local Groundwater Assistance Grants (AB303), and data from local agencies.
- International Benchmarking Network for Water and Sanitation Utilities (IBNET) - the world's largest database for water and sanitation utilities performance data.
- Methods and Data Comparability Board - The 'Methods Board' is a partnership of water-quality experts from federal agencies, states, tribes, municipalities, industry, and private organizations who all share a commitment to developing water-quality monitoring approaches that facilitate collaboration and comparability amongst all data-gathering organizations.
NOAA, etc.:
-
National Climatic Data Center (NCDC)
- Data and Standards - Data developed at the NOAA Coastal Services Center is available from this site; links to other data providers also are available. The standards section contains information about best practices and guidelines for data development and documentation.
- National Oceanographic Data Center archives & provides public access to global oceanographic and coastal data, products, and information.
- National Environmental Methods Index (NEMI) - Database of environmental monitoring methods that allows monitoring data to be shared among agencies and organizations that use different methods at different times.
- Soil Data Viewer - A tool built as an extension to ArcMap that allows a user to create soil-based thematic maps. The application can also be run independent of ArcMap, but output is then limited to a tabular report. US Dept. of Agriculture, Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS).
- Southern California Coastal Water Research Project Authority - DATA - SCCWRP is a publicly funded agency and aims to make its data available to other scientists and the general public in an expeditious manner.
- STORET - STORET (short for STOrage and RETrieval) is a repository for water quality, biological, and physical data and is used by state environmental agencies, EPA and other federal agencies, universities, private citizens, and many others.
- Sustainability of Semi-Arid Hydrology and Riparian Areas (SAHRA) Hydroarchive - The SAHRA Hydroarchive software exchange site was developed to allow the creators of hydrologic software to share their work with the general public.
- Water Data Library - CA Dept. of Water Resources: Includes Water Quality, Groundwater Level, and Surface Water data. ("Climatology data coming soon" 11/4/05.)
- Water Use in the United States - USGS: The U.S. Geological Survey's National Water-Use Information Program is responsible for compiling and disseminating the nation's water-use data.
- World River Sediment Yields Database - Database contains data on annual sediment yields in worldwide rivers and reservoirs, searchable by river, country and continent. The database was compiled from different sources by HR Wallingford, UK, on behalf of the FAO Land and Water Development Division, United Nations.
