Volunteer Opportunities

Community Workdays are held at the park on the second Saturday of each month from 9:00 am - Noon. Come out and join us!

Heron Head Park (Pier 98) is located at the Intersection of Cargo Way and Jennings Street in the Bayview District of San Francisco.

The focus of these workdays were the removal of invasive plant species such as Russian Star Thistle, Italian Fennel, Eastern cordgrass (Spartina alterniflora), Salsola soda, French Broom and several others that threaten the park habitat value.

Achievements during past workdays are the building up of many brush piles thus breaking up the bareness of the upland habitat and providing critical habitat for upland species s such as field mice, ground sparrows, lizards, gophers snakes and more. Some other restoration activities include native plantings, mulching, and habitat construction and maintenance.

If you would like to inquire about volunteer opportunities for this project, please contact Heron Head Park Coordinator, Ben Stone-Francisco, at (415) 508-0575 or e-mail address heronshead@lejyouth.org.
