The Alliance for a Clean Waterfront (ACW) is a collaboration of environmental and community organizations in San Francisco that is leading a regional effort to follow up on the research recommended by the San Francisco Airport Science Panel regarding plans to expand the runways of San Francisco International Airport (SFO).

The Alliance will cause SFO to generate comprehensive research regarding the potential impacts of its runway reconfiguration and expansion plans, and assist in identifying and developing other alternatives to runway expansion that would have fewer adverse impacts on the San Francisco Bay estuary.

Activities include:

(1) complete research regarding all of the applications and permits that SFO must obtain for approval of its runway reconfiguration and expansion plans.

(2) meet with the interest groups and other contributing environmental and community groups to identify the specific research projects that SFO should generate.

(3) meet with SFO to develop a workplan and timetable for all of the research.

(4) continue to monitor and review the research, and ensure that SFO modifies its plans in accordance with it.
