Volunteer Opportunities - Preventing Harm program

Clean Water Fund's Preventing Harm program provides opportunities for community members to get involved in policy discussion and public education regarding persistent chemicals that pollute our environment. The Preventing Harm project focuses on toxins that negatively effect the development and health of children, especially those contaminants that can harm brain development. Mercury, pesticides and PCBs are three such pollutantsthat can contribute to developmental disorders in children and are found at high levels in the San Francisco Bay.

Volunteers and interested residents have formed a parents group, called Parents for Preventing Harm, which seeks to educate San Francisco parents about environmental risks to children's health. Opportunities exist through this group to learn more about environmental toxins and their health effects, lead workshops at local schools or health centers, learn about relevant legislation, attend hearings, and meet with legislators.

For more information on how you can get involved as a volunteer, contact cwasf@cleanwater.org.
