Background
UWP, a local
community-based environmental organization and California 501(c)3
non-profit corporation, directly participates in the advocacy, planning,
monitoring and restoration of the 250-acre watershed and uses these
activities to coordinate community participation and environmental
education opportunities for neighborhood associations, K-12 schools
and local colleges. UWP conducts an internship program with Galileo
Academy of Science and Technology in cooperation with the University
of California, Berkeley and the San Francisco Unified School District.
UWP also participates
in on-going projects in other areas of the Golden Gate National
Recreation Area in cooperation with the National Park Service. On
a broader front, UWP contributes its water quality monitoring, watershed
management and public participation expertise to collaborations
with local environmental organizations such as the 15-member Alliance
for a Clean Waterfront and with environmental groups focused on
restoration, conservation, restoration issues, water and waste water
planning issues. As part of the Alliance, UWP participates on the
Mayor's San Francisco Public Utilities Commission Infrastructure
Task Force.
