A stakeholders
group formed in 1999 to address steelhead restoration issues in
the Alameda Creek watershed. The Alameda Creek Fisheries Restoration
Workgroup has been working to collect the scientific data needed
and propose management actions for restoration of migratory fish.
This information includes:
*
Identification of fish passage barriers and proposed dam removals
or fish passage projects;
* Identification of potential spawning
and rearing habitat and potential habitat restoration actions;
* Constraints imposed by current
water supply and flood control activities and potential management
changes beneficial to anadromous fish;
* Surveys of existing resident trout
and landlocked steelhead trout populations; and
* Genetic analysis of resident, landlocked,
and ocean-run fish to determine suitable source populations for
steelhead restoration.
