Video circulation

We are anticipating the opening of a new library which will include a state of the art Media Center. This Center will include both our microtext collections and the College's collection of videos and DVDs, as well as the technology to support and view this collection. This new Media Center will be opening August 2000.

Before this opening date, we realize we need to have in place a clear policy in regard to the circulation of these materials. What can circulate, to whom, for how long are among the questions we are grappling with. This is clearly a complex decision which involves preservation of materials, copyright issues, accessibility of materials to the College community and possibly to the larger neighboring communities beyond the College walls.

We are of course discussing this issue with many parts of our college community to include their views and ideas in our final policy decisions. We would be very interested, and would find it very helpful, to hear how other centers which house video collections have dealt with this issue of circulation policy. If you have electronic policies which we could either visit on the web or you can send to me at my email (not to the group email) this would be extremely helpful to us.

Thank you for any help you can offer.
