fair use question

I just got a call regarding the screening of two particular videos (a week
from today, of course) and whether or not it qualifies as "public
performance."

Promotional info is going out to the university community only (faculty,
staff, students). The screening will be followed by a panel discussion of
academics.

They want to show
Six O'Clock News (distributed by First Run Features)
Black Like Me (our copy is distributed by Rhino Home Video)

Are they okay since the general public is not invited or do they need to
get permission?

Thanks!
Barb
