Over the weekend I reviewed some recent issues of _Children's Video
Report_. If you select for children and you are unfamiliar with this
publication, you might want to call or email the editor, Martha Dewing,
for a sample issue. Her email address is CVReport@aol.com. Phone:
718/935-0600. The latest issue featured a familiar face, Virginia Boyle,
formerly of Facets, now with Ph.D. behind her name! She contributed an
excellent article: "Documentaries: Revealing the Extraordinary in the
Ordinary." She actually asked kids what they look for in a documentary
and their responses are revealing. Here's my favorite, from an
11-year-old, "If the topic is serious, don't make it into a joke." The
entire issue is devoted to reviews of biographies and documentaries for
children. Lots of good content.
