The new ACRL "Guidelines for Media Resources in Academic Libraries" were
approved at ALA Midwinter in January. They have now been published, with
a background article, in the April 1999 issue of _C&RL News_. They will
eventually be available on the ALA web site:
<http://www.ala.org/acrl/guides/medresg.html>. However, as of five
minutes ago, the draft guidelines published last May were still on the
site. I'm hoping they will be replaced by the final version soon.
Please contact me if you have questions about the document. The process
of drafting the guidelines, gathering input, taking them through
revisions, and then through the ACRL approval process took several years.
I hope academic librarians find them to be useful. I'm confident that the
represent best practices for building media collections and developing
services in academic libraries.
