In the ongoing argument about whether it is fair use to put dance
performance videos that were taped off tv on reserve in the library,
remember that many such items have not been cleared for video release
because no one was willing to pay the artists involved for such rights. By
putting such desirable but illegal videos as the Joffrey Ballet's Sacre du
Printemps on the reserve shelf in a library is not just ripping off one
video producer - it is ripping off an entire dance company of underpaid
artists, as well as stage crew, designers, etc.
