On Tuesday a federal judge in Oklahoma ruled that THE TIN DRUM is NOT child
pornography. For those of you who may have forgotten in June 1997 the
police in Oklahoma City Siezed copies of the tape from the library, several
video stores and the homes of several private citizens, claiming that the
film was Kiddie porn under the state statute. The judge ruled that the film
was a serious work of art and there for not subject to the statute as the
district attorney claimed. There are still two more pending suites involving
the seizure of the tapes and the obtaining of illegal information from the
video stores. The police had no warrent, either for the seizures or the
customer information from the stores. It is likely that at least one of the
two remaining cases will go to trial sometime next year. The Oklahoma City
Library received a great deal of support from the community during its
struggle, though it still remains under attack from the far right on a
number of issues.

I will update the list as information becomes available
