Your "on the other hand" is a good example of what collection
development folks in public libraries spend time doing to balance the easy
to get mass market offerings. Letting a jobber select a collection often
either frees time to do this difficult searching or skews the collection
to "videostore mentality". Finding tools and scare (perhaps "expensive")
offerings frustrate the job.
